Divorce is intimidating and overwhelming.

I understand.

You will never be ready. You will never want a divorce.

If you can save your marriage, do it!

But if you are getting a divorce, feel overwhelmed, and don’t know where to start, give me a call.

It’s all I do, and I do it really well.

My motto is, “Divorce without drama,” because while divorce is painful  – it doesn’t have to get ugly.

This is about your retirement, your kids, and your life.

You don’t want to “screw” your spouse, but you don’t want to be taken advantage of, either.

You know you need an attorney, but you’ve heard the horror stories of attorneys billing outrageous fees and pitting one against the other. But how do you move forward?

There’s a better way through a divorce mediator.

My ex-husband and I wanted someone that would fairly protect both of our interests. We didn’t want to argue, and we wanted things to go quickly and efficiently.

Honestly, things couldn’t have gone better or faster.

Sarah R.

Why Choose a Mediated Divorce In Portland?

What Portland Residents Should Know About Filing for Divorce

If you live in Portland proper, your divorce is filed with the Multnomah County Circuit Court, whose family law division is at the Central Courthouse, 1200 SW 1st Avenue, Portland, OR 97204 (2nd floor). You can file in Multnomah County if either you or your spouse lives there, as long as at least one of you has lived in Oregon for six months.

The Portland metro is unusual, though: the city and its suburbs span three different counties, and where you file depends on which side of the line you’re on:

  • Multnomah County — Portland and Gresham (Central Courthouse, 1200 SW 1st Ave)
  • Washington County — Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, and Aloha (courthouse in Hillsboro)
  • Clackamas County — Lake Oswego, West Linn, and Gladstone (courthouse in Oregon City)

That matters more than most people realize, because the counties don’t run divorce the same way. Each requires a court-approved parent education class for parents with minor children, but they use different programs. A few things are the same statewide, no matter which county you’re in:

  • Litigated divorces in the Portland metro commonly run 9–18 months; mediated divorces usually finalize in 1–3 months.
  • Parents with minor children must complete the parent education program before a judge signs the final judgment.

With mediation, you never set foot in the Central Courthouse. We prepare the paperwork, e-file it with the correct county on your behalf, and walk it through to a signed judgment.

Reduce Drama

Mediation cuts through the nonsense. We will handle everything from beginning to end. We will even go to court for you!

Get Control

In mediation, you control your custody arrangements and support obligations – not the courts.

Save Time

Court divorces usually take between 9-18 months. Mediation usually takes between 1-3 months.

Save Money

Court proceedings, on average, are 4-5 times more expensive than mediation services.

Divorce is one of the most gut-wrenching experiences anyone can endure. How do I know that? I’ve been in your shoes.

If you can save your marriage… do it! But if your circumstances require a divorce, then choose a divorce process that will respect you, respect your spouse, and protect your family. Divorce mediation is that process.

Because I’ve been through it myself, I know you need to be heard, I know you need to think, I know you need guidance, and I know (at times) you need to be pushed.

Here’s my truth…

How it works:

I will take you through a safe and secure process that is fair and respects both you and your spouse. I’ll educate, guide, and keep you on track: pulling you through the fiery pits of divorce hell until we get to the light on the other side.

Divorce is anxiety, sadness and frustration. It can feel as if everyone is against you. As a man, even thinking about going to a female divorce mediator wasn’t the plan. But I had information that Julie would be professional, skilled, non-judgmental and fair.

My experience with her was confirmed 110%. Her demeanor toward both of us made the difficult process far easier, less stressful and extremely efficient.

I cannot recommend Julie and her team highly enough. This has been the toughest year of my life only softened by how well I was taken care of by Mediation Northwest.

Divorce is awful no matter who is going through it, Julie made it a little more bearable.
